Maybe it's just the early morning buzz messing with me, but the latest AP story on Iraq is really weirding me out. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates stated that "We hope there would not be a unilateral military action across the border into Iraq." Wha? Oh wait, he was referring to Turkey, and their desire to respond to "Kurdish terrorism that takes place on Turkish soil." And the capper is that Gates made the statement at a news conference where "Turkey and Iraq were not represented." Seriously, what is going on in the world?
At the same news conference, Gates was asked WTF is up with Somalia? by a reporter. He responded "That's possibly an ongoing operation." This guy really missed his dream job as the president's press secretary. Well, the AP headline is currently reading "U.S. warship bombards Somalia militants." Sounds like it's better than a possibility. It's hard to know what to say in this Bizarro Orwellian World, but linking to my fisking of the BBC on Somalia somehow seems appropriate.
Why are you not writing headlines for major news outlets? The title of
this post is so much a better reflection of what's newsworthy in the story.
